Gifts to this fund support activities and programs benefiting students
and faculty during throughout the academic year.
Center for Children's Books (CCB) Betsy Hearne Fund
This fund honors Professor Emerita Betsy Hearne, past director of the CCB, and her legacy of teaching and storytelling as the basis for literacy and a love of language. The fund will be used to create a directorship for the center, and gifts from alumni will be matched on a one-to-one basis with a total contribution of $75,000 by Lionelle Elsesser (MS ’67) and her husband James Elsesser.
Harold Ladd Smith Jr. and Flora Lancaster Smith Endowment for GSLIS Student Travel
Gifts to this fund, established by GSLIS Associate Dean Linda Smith (MS '72) in honor of her parents, will be matched up to $75,000 to support travel for Alternate Spring Break, service learning projects in Chicago, East St. Louis, western Africa, professional conferences, and other opportunities that require student travel.
Curt McKay Student Need Fund
Money awarded from this fund will assist students with short term emergencies for unexpected life events and was begun in 2005 in honor of Assistant Dean for Student Affairs Curt McKay's many years of service to GSLIS students.
Katharine L. Sharp First-Time Donors Fellowship Fund
Lionelle Elsesser (MS ’67) and her husband James have pledged $50,000 per year for two years to match first-time donor gifts two-to-one. When the full $150,000 is raised, gifts to this fund will be matched by the provost, which will fully endow two fellowships.
GSLIS LEEP Scholarship Endowment Fund
This fund started with gifts from current distance track students
who are committed to helping tomorrow's LEEP students with scholarship
assistance. Gifts from current students, alumni, and friends are welcome!
GSLIS Building Fund
Gifts to this fund will pay toward the debt accrued when the building
additions were added in 2002.
Center for Children's Books Outreach Endowment Fund
The new income from the Endowed Fund will support outreach activities
for the Center for Children's Books in general and the Gryphon Award
for children's literature.
Special Librarians Fund
Income from this Fund is used to support students interested in working in special libraries, such as libraries that are part of a business or organization. The Fund is also used to promote special librarianship to students, vendors, academic researchers and practitioners/librarians by supporting activities and programs in the special library area.
